Pocket Pig

He is 3.5” (9cm) long without the tail and 2” (5cm) up to his shoulder.

I used a 3.5mm hook and DK yarn.

I used the magic loop method to start because I wanted the circles tight.

This is written in UK terms but for your convenience I have printed a US version at the bottom.

Body

Each row 1-19 starts with 2ch=1dc and ends by a slip stitch into the second chain from the start.

Using the magic loop method to start

Row 1: ch2=1dc, 3dc into loop, close loop and slst together. (4 sts)

Row 2: ch2=1dc, 1dc into same stitch, 2dc into remaining 7dcs and slst together. (8 sts)

Row 3: ch2=1dc, then 1dc into each st through back loops only and slst together. (8 sts)

Row 4: ch 2=1dc, 1dc into each following stitch and slst together. (8 sts)

Row 5:  ch2=1dc, 1dc each into next 2 sts, 2dc into st, 2dc into st, 1dc each into last 3 sts and slst together. (10 sts)

Row 6: ch2=1dc, 1dc into same stitch, 2dc into each remaining st and sl st together. (20 sts)

Row 7-17: ch2=1dc, 1dc into other sts and slst together.

Stuff

Row 18: 2ch=1dc, then working into each st – repeat (2dctog, 1dc, 1dc)  4 times, then 2dctog, 1 dc and slst together. (15 sts)

Row 19: 2ch=1dc, (2dctog) 7 times and slst together. (8 sts)

Top up stuffing

Now working in a spiral, 2dctog till you have only one stitch.

Using same yarn make

Tail

Ch12 then slst into 2nd ch from hook, then into every following stitch till back to body. Finish off yarn and curl tail.

Feet

(make 4)

Using the magic loop method to start

Row 1: 2ch=1dc, then 5dc into loop and slst together.

Row 2: 2ch=1dc, 1dc into each remaining st through back loops only. (6 sts)

Now working in spiral work 4 rounds of dcs (24 dcs in total)

Thread yarn through final stitch and leave long tail for sewing to body.

Ears

Leave good length at start for sewing on ear.

Row 1: ch 5,

Row 2: Turn and 1dc into 3rd loop from hook, dc into remaining 2 sts. (4 sts)

Row 3: 1ch, pull yarn through next st then pull yarn through both loops on hook, 2dctog.

Row 4: 1ch, pull yarn through next st then pull yarn through both loops on hook.

Sew in end of yarn.

Sew feet on either side of ‘seam’ made by 2chs at bottom of body, inserting a small amount of stuffing.

Front: just after increase.

Back ones: just before decrease starts.

Sew ears on head just after increases and curl forward slightly at sides.

Using black wool, sew a couple of stitches in snout for nostrils and two stitches each for eyes just above snout.

US version

Using a 4 / E hook and worsted weight yarn

Body

Each row 1-19 starts with 2ch=1sc and ends by a slip stitch into the second chain from the start.

Row 2: ch2=1sc, 1sc into same stitch, 2sc into remaining 7scs and slst together. (8 sts)

Row 3: ch2=1sc, then 1sc into each st through back loops only and slst together. (8 sts)

Row 4: ch 2=1sc, 1sc into each following stitch and slst together. (8 sts)

Row 5: ch2=1sc, 1sc each into next 2 sts, 2sc into st, 2sc into st, 1sc each into last 3 sts and slst together. (10 sts)

Row 6: ch2=1sc, 1sc into same stitch, 2sc into each remaining st and sl st together. (20 sts)

Row 7-17: ch2=1sc, 1sc into other sts and slst together.

Stuff

Row 18: 2ch=1sc, then working into each st – repeat (2sctog, 1sc, 1sc) 4 times, then 2sctog, 1 sc and slst together. (15 sts)

Row 19: 2ch=1sc, (2sctog) 7 times and slst together. (8 sts)

Top up stuffing

Now working in a spiral, 2sctog till you have only one stitch.

Using same yarn make

Tail

Ch12 then slst into 2nd ch from hook, then into every following stitch till back to body. Finish off yarn and curl tail.
