Still not quite sure what you mean. I give instructions for an edging and include some charts for people who might want to try an alternative edging.

I used to make the first one all the time when I lived in FL. Haven’t used thread much lately. Need to get back to it. Never thought of putting a “granny” as the center, but it makes a great deal of sense!
LikeLiked by 1 person
I presume you mean the one with the round centre. I do like that one best but the other is quicker to make.

Thank you. My grandma, born in 1884, used to make these. The last one she made was stolen when my purse and car were cleaned out once Christmas.

MY Grandma Dolly, born in 1885, taught me to crochet at age 3 – this was the second thing she had me crochet. I still have it – it looks like the variegated one, but in a pink/white.

Interesting. That sort of crochet seemed to what was very popular then.

Looks exactly like the cross pattern I had made up, including loop and trim. I didn’t publish the pattern though.. I was just giving them away to folks to inspire them in faith. Guess great minds think alike.

Well it is fairly generic but most of the similar patterns I have seen use trs (US dcs) where I use dtrs (US trs).

Can’t you just copy and paste the UK or US versions into a wordprocessor, whichever you prefer? Than is what I do if I need a printed copy of a pattern. Surely this is better than an email?

Oh, I forgot to ask, what is a magic loop to start this pattern. Could u explain how to make it. I’m very curious about it. Thx!

Well alternatively you can always make a ring of four chain. But I do describe the magic loop here – https://rainbowjunkiecorner.wordpress.com/crochet-tutorials/ Perhaps I should have put in a link.

Made your cross bookmark tonight. I’m a relative beginner so its not perfect but I like it. Only had to frog once! I couldn’t figure out the edging so did my own simple sc all round and it looks okay. Crocheted using white cotton thread size 10 and 3 hook –
Thank you for a lovely design!

Glad you like it. The edging can be anything you like. Mine was something that was a little bit like picots but easier. I am sure if you keep doing crochet that you will get better and better; I know I have.

Just want to take a moment to thank YOU for the hard work you’ve done in getting these patterns written out – and for sharing so freely with all of us!
I’ve been amazed with the crochet community – because of the wonderful, generous hookers like you, the rest of us who are working to improve our own skills can do so – without having to spend TONS of money for classes, etc.!
It’s almost like gaining a whole new family – one that has shared with all of us out here in the blogosphere (the readers).
THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!
Blessings to you – always!

amazing pattern. Thank you. I wanted to tell you that a cross-stitch needle either of size 11 to 14 count (or close to that) works great for weaving the threads in with this type of project.

Glad you like th pattern. Thank you for the advice re weaving in the threads. I do have a cross-stitch needle for 14 count since doing the bit of cross stitch I did, I must try using it next time.

I love the picture of the pattern cross. It’s been so long since I’ve crocheted that I have to relearn the terms and stitches., but I’m such a quick learner that it should take me a day or two to learn how to do it.

Am just crocheting again after a 30 year break! How much time would you say it will take someone to make one of the cross bookmarks? Just need a name day gift in two days and wondering if I should buy the materials to make a cross or just buy a gift due to the lack of time!
LikeLiked by 1 person
Well I think it used to take me about two or three hours to make a cross and the edging. But then I would use spray starch to stiffen it and make the cord the next day. Though if you ironed it till it was dry I suppose you could do it all the same day. Hope this helps.
