A Birthday Owl

Recently I wanted something to giver a friend for their birthday and the easiest thing to do, and most personal, was to make them something.

I found a split ring and chain that had come from a broken key-ring and thought that a crochet key-ring could be fun but what to attach?

I decided on an owl and found a pattern on Ravelry, though it sounded as if it might be bigger than I wanted. [https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/owl-key-chain]

In the end I changed the pattern so much, starting with how many stitches in the first round, the only thing that I kept was the buttons for eyes. owl key-ring hanging in apple treeI hung her on the tree for fun but it was such a windy day that I ended up taking loads of photographs.

I also made an origami style birthday card.

I won’t show you the inside, as my drawing skills are about kindergarten level, but here is the card and owl together.key-ring, card and wrapping paperJust before I packed her up.
